Are you wondering what all the different room types in a hotel mean?
Don’t feel silly for asking, it’s a question I’ve been asked thousands of times when taking bookings for the hotel I own, so it’s something lots of people are still confused about.
I definitely appreciate the importance of having a comfortable and well-appointed room that meets our guest’s requirements, after all, that’s what we’re in the business of, right?
As a hotel owner, operating two hotels in regional Western Australia since 2011, and an extensive traveler, I’ve seen it all when it comes to hotel rooms and I know exactly what people are looking for when it comes to comparing and choosing the different room types for their perfect stay.

If you are looking for a particular room type, you can usually find what you are looking for by a quick online search, either by checking a hotel’s website or an OTA (Online Travel Agent) booking site.
By using the search function on an OTA booking site, you can filter for rooms that fit your specific needs. Whether you’re traveling with a group or just looking for a cozy bed for yourself, narrow down your search by guest capacity and bed size. You can also filter by in-room amenities and hotel policies.
Once you have found somewhere you like, and checked they have availability, I always like to Google the name of the hotel, and check their own website to see if they have any deals on. I was able to save 30% on a recent trip to Perth by doing this, as the caravan park we stayed at had a discount code available if you booked directly through their website.
I will always book where I can get the best price or best inclusions, but if the prices are the same, I will book using the OTA, as I feel sometimes, depending on a few different factors, that this offers an extra layer of protection for me as the guest, but each to their own 🙂

We have King Single beds in them, so they’re wider and longer than a standard single, and we usually would sell these ones as a last resort, as people these days prefer larger beds (as they have gotten larger themselves!)

Hotel Owner Tip: This is what we offer at our country pub as a style suitable for couples. At our hotel in the tourist region of Margaret River, Western Australia, we have Queen Rooms with Corner Spas, as these rooms are physically too small for a king sized bed.

Hotel Owners Tip: We have these in a handful of our rooms, as they are perfect for tour groups who will often book people into twin-share rooms. We were really worried that people would be able to feel the fact that the bed is two single beds that zipper together. We have never had a complaint though, as what we do is put a really thick mattress topper on the bed, as well as the mattress protector, so it’s pretty impossible to even notice the zipper!
