Running from the river mouth all the way to the caravan park, (which also happens to be a dog-friendly camping spot), the beach of Flinder’s Bay is an excellent place to let your dog enjoy the sand, surf, and sun. The Shire of Augusta-Margaret River website has more information.
Just a few clicks west of Margaret River, a seven-minute drive to be exact, you have Gnarabup Beach at Prevelly.
Up at the northern end of Gnarabup Beach, below Surfer’s Point, dogs are allowed to roam free with no restraints all year round. The best place to access this beach is the parking lot on Reef Road.
This dog-friendly beach near Margaret River is gorgeous. There are rock pools begging to be explored, as well as plenty of white sand to play and run around on, and turquoise water to swim in. Very picturesque if you want a seaside photo for your dogs' Bucket List.
Over at the sand dunes in Riflebutts Reserve, dogs are also allowed off-leash, just not in the playground area. Seasonally, dogs are allowed off-leash along the beach from Seagrass Place to Gas Bay Road Car Park.
The Augusta-Margaret River Shire has a map that better indicates which parts of the area are dog friendly all year-round or just seasonally.
Further north, the next town you’ll come across is the charming holiday village of Gracetown, which has a dog-friendly beach at the south end and is best accessed via the dirt track a bit past Percy Street on Bayview Terrace. Gracetown is a 20-minute drive from Margaret River.
If you keep heading north up the coast from Gracetown, you’ll end up in Yallingup, which is a half-hour drive north of Margaret River. Here, you’ll have two beaches to choose from. Smith’s Beach and Yallingup Beach.

Yallingup Beach has pristine sands and great surf. This pet-friendly beach near Margaret River is delightful. A lagoon of shallow waters is fantastic for lying down and letting the water lap around you, or for the small kidlets and young puppies to run around and play in without feeling like they’re “in too deep”.
It is also a great place to learn to surf or paddle board– or train your poochie-poo to do it, ticking another item on his Bucket List.
If you’re still traveling north, you’ll have to turn east at some point and head towards Dunsborough and Busselton, but never fear, the areas surrounding the Margaret River Region have many dog-friendly beaches, so you’ll find some there too.
Bunker Bay is a gorgeous beach just west of the town of Eagle Bay. This scenic dog beach has plenty to explore and space to play. It’s a place you should definitely visit on your trip to the southwest. Bunker Bay is almost an hour north of Margaret River, but only 40 minutes from Busselton.
Between Dunsborough and Busselton, and even beyond Busselton, there are good stretches of dog-friendly beach, which is great for those that love long beach walks. However, some of the off-leash beach areas are seasonal, and others are on-leash only. To find out which ones are accessible for your four-legged friend, visit the Busselton Shire website.
